FUNCTIONAL JOB ANALYSIS (FJA)
The Employment Cost Solutions Functional Job Analysis (FJA),
is exactly what it sounds like: a thorough analysis of a particular
job, to be used for a variety of functions.
| The process is fairly
simple: |
- An ECS therpist will come to the workplace and observe
the job in question using state-of-the-art equipment
and the latest observation techniques.
- The therapist will get input from the business owner,
HR staff, job supervisors and pre-existing employees
- After writing up the report (called the Functional Job
Description or FJD), the therapist will verify its accuracy
by obtaining signed verification from a supervisor and
employees currently performing the job in question.
- Within a few days, usually overnight, the employer will
have a copy of the Functional Job Description (FJD) and
will have it explained, if needed, by the same therapist
who created it.
|
| The FJD can be used in
myriad ways: |
- To limit risk by redesigning the workspace, changing
work practices, employee training and conditioning.
- To create a Pre-Work Screen (often
referred to as a Post-Offer/Pre-Work Screen).
- The basis for Job Matching/Job Banks – Employers
can refer to a group of FJDs to identify the best positions
for new hires and even pre-existing employees who may perform
better if placed in a job more suited to their natural
abilities.
- To develop Stay-at-Work/Return-to-Work Programs – Designed
to ensure aging employees maintain their highest possible
productivity and that injured employees transition back
into the workforce as quickly and safely as possible.
- To create a WorkWell Functional Capacity Evaluation -
the cream-of-the-crop FCE. It is
the best available measure of an injured employee's ability
to return to their job and is often used to safely expedite
that entire process, saving the employee time, while saving
the employer and insurer the high cost of extended rehab.
